Calder Gardens Door Handles

In the Spring of 2025, Weston Design & Fabrication studio was approached with a task to good to pass up. “Could we turn Black Locust logs ( from the Barnes Family private estate) into ever so slight tapered door handles for the New Calder Gardens (Alexander Calder) solo multi gallery museum that was to open on the Benjamin Franklin parkway in Philadelphia.

We were able to develop a dozen or so processes and fixtures to make these a reality. From Milling the rough logs into usable lumber, to creating inventive jigs to create repeatable shapes. be sure to watch the videos at the bottom to see a few of those critical steps.

We love a challenge and having the opportunity to push our skills.
